in Cutting tax
Hello!
Pretty much have it all in the title. For some reason I was put on a month 1 basis on my new job, presumably I forgot to hand some form in. Anyway, as a result I havnt received any portion of my tax free allowance- all the other new joiners (in oct 09) received a much larger salary in their first couple of months. My question is, will this automatically get sorted at the end of the tax year, or do I have to contact HMRC? Can I contact them anyway to get the tax repaid sooner than april?
Thanks!

If you didn't have a P45 ..... you should have completed a P46?
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/paye/employees/start-leave/new-employee.htm#x5
...... but you would normally have been given code 647L 1 if this was via a P46?. Which means you do get your personal allowance ..... you just don't get any refunds owing (break in employment?) as it's a non-cumulative code.
Best way is to try and sort it before the final pay date in March ..... that way you get any refund via pay. It won't be dealt with automatically .... for a long time ... by HMRC. Their new PAYE system will do reconciliations eventually ...... but it's having teething problems of fairly significant proportions. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
