Removing a name from a joint mortgage

My parents have currently been seperated for two years, now my mam has decided to want her name taken off the joint mortgage, she has been told that she must have a divorce in order to have her name taking off the mortgage, is this right?
she claims she doesnt want any money from the house and is happy for the family to live there, but is also claiming that her soliciter will say that she needs half of the house as she had lived for over 7 years ther, even though she doesnt.

No. All parties to the mortgage and the lender must agree to the change of ownership, regardless of any divorce.

The solicitor should advise their client but, ultimately, takes instructions from the client.

If Mum says "give my half of the house away" then the solicitor should act on that.
