Mortgage after CCJ

Hello!

I was wondering if anybody is able to offer me some advice.

I was issued a CCJ about 7 years ago for a debt of around £250. I have had no defults... etc... since this time.

7 years on I am looking to buy a property under one of the governments shared ownership schemes. The only thing that could possibly hold me back is this CCJ from days gone by!

I have been using two credit cards which I repay in full to build a more positive credit history.

I'm not sure if mortgage providers will be aware of the CCJ, if I need to declare it and ultimately if it is destroy my chances of getting a main stream mortgage... does anyone have any ideas? :)

Did you pay the CCJ off within 28 days, I think? You are allowed to have a good honest dispute in court and lose, without affecting your credit rating, provided you comply with the judgement quickly.

  • No... sadly not. I settled it a few months later and have the certificate confirming.

Obtain a copy of your credit report ....report (not score)...all CCJ'S, defaults etc are shown on there going back 6 years
  • Thank you... I've checked my credit reports and the CCJ has now been removed. There are no defaults or similar.

    You should be fine then.

Get in contact with a whole of market adviser and find a good deal - then do an agreement in principle with the one you like, just to make sure the lenders do not have any other issues with your credit file (all this being done after having discussed your scenario and credit file carefully with the adviser).

Have you been accepted on the scheme?

Which one are you looking at?

Just be careful that not all lenders accept all the schemes - so choice for the one you go for could be limited.
