in Cutting tax
Hi
I was made redundant in May 09. In tax year 09/10 i paid 1 month tax on my salary and tax on enhanced redundancy pay. I have been told i should be entitled to a tax rebate as i haven't worked since and i am not claiming benefit. However, i have been on the inland revenue website and they advise to fill in a P50 and send it with your P45 to the tax office..I have lost my P45 though. Will a rebate be automatically calculated at the end of the tax year or will i have to actively apply for it. Any help will be appriciated

Just send in the P50 now with a note to say you have mislaid your P45. Don't wait until the end of the tax year.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

What happens if you wait til after the tax year? I think I'm in a similar situation but for 2008... have I lost the tax? (I worked April and was taxed in full, but then left and didn't work that year - in the UK)0

When an employer issues a P45 the top-copy (Part 1) should be sent directly to HMRC so they should have a copy of their own.
Also all employers are required to submit an Employer's Annual Return (P35) along with an End of Year Summary (P14) for every employee to HMRC. This will give HMRC details of your taxable earnings and tax paid. The deadline for submitting these forms for the tax year ending 5th April 2010 is 19th May 2010, so HMRC will find out the relevant details one way or another.
And based on my experience from last year I wouldn't sit back and wait for a refund to pop through your letterbox, get chasing! The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water
And I look like a tramp and tramps like us
