I've lived in it all my life and i have to say its just going from bad to worse.
Portadown runs rings round it for shopping
The only thing that prospers are banks.
Loads of derelect / To Let units with people looking two fortunes for rent.
Sectarian divisions rife - some kid got nearly kicked to death outside tescos last week, just because of his religion (though i doubt he or his oppressors attend church)
Woeful traffic flow system - a 'ring road' with four sets of traffic lights on it to slow you down.
Does anyone have a small nuclear device handy?

Is there anywhere in NI that doesn't have that sectarian tension running in the background? Newry is pretty sh*t too - all this "new city" and the great advantages that would bring is a load of old bullocks.0

I live in Lurgan too. And I have to disagree... its not only the banks that prosper, the pubs and chippies do too!
Though to be fair, I haven't been in the town centre in weeks, I tend to go as far as the train station, and escape to Belfast! I have been known to go to the Ashburn on occassion though. I hate the place. Lurgan drives me mad! I hate it so much*insert witty comment here*0 -
I think it's up to the council and trade shops to inject a bit more life into the town. I don't mind going to lurgan but it just seems so depressing. They need to get more of a family feel to it. You see places like lisburn doing family day things but never really in lurgan. Lisburn is a city but still the same principle applies. Get families back in. Proper police it to make it safe at night. Needs more cafes and good shops in my opinion.MFW 148 - Mortgage £121,000 1Jan11 / Mortgage £120,300 28Jan11 / £119,808 24Feb11 / £119,400 22 April11 / £119,089 29 May11 / £118,500 October110

Never been much to Lurgan, but i'm not sure it was anything special to begin with, even before the dissident republicans started rioting.0

The rioting is usually the most exciting thing that ever happens. You hear about it the next day and you have something to talk about with the old biddies in Cafolla's*insert witty comment here*0

Goodness Gracious, Lurgan must be boring!!0

I don't live in or near Lurgan but having visited it a few times and I have found the shops OK - still a few independent ones left, not just big chains, which is good.
Portadown on the other hand is a dreadful place, no interesting shops at all.0 -
What's the cost of living in Lurgan compared to elsewhere in N.I?0
