Learning Shorthand

I also learnt shorthand as part of legal secretary training and have never really used it! In court someone else types up the case notes, on the special machine mentioned above and if i needed to take notes i just tended to use my own shorthand rather than what i had learnt. On a day to day basis all i used was audio transcription.
If you do want to learn it though, the books i used at college could be brought from normal bookstores (maybe even ebay) and were the teeline books. So maybe it would be cheaper to teach yourself.0
