Expenses before business officially running?

Hello
I know this sounds crazy. I am a registered childminder. I was registered on 10 July 2008 but prior to that I had to pay out for such things as:
registration with Care Commission
smoke alarms wired into mains
liability insurance
equipment
etc etc
I could not operate as a childminder until got my registration certificate. Can i still claim these expenses if i say business started on say 14 July 2008, by which time i would have got certificate in the post and could then start advertising. Or, can i say business started say 10 June (month earlier) so that i can claim the expenses, even though i would not have been iin a position to trade as such at that date?
thanks guys. really appreciate help.

Yes, as long as they are genuine expenses of your business.0

do you mean to say started the business before registration or to say started it when registered and then claim expenses from before that date?

Yes, you can claim for pre-trading expenditure as long as they are genuine business expenses.0
