Old Lost Endowment

Hi - I'm new on here but what a lot of good stuff there is! Anyway - I think that I might have had an endowment policy on a flat I bought in London about 24 years ago. I didn't have the property long - about 18 - 20 mths and at the time it only cost me £23,500 (!!!!!!). When I sold it I bought a leasehold business and moved into rented property so the payments stopped. Now I'm disabled and in debt and would like to find out if this policy has any value (and if I have a policy as I can't remember if it was an endowment or repayment mortgage but I suspect that, given my naivety and the financial climate at the time someone would have done their best to make sure it was an endowment!) I have no clue about which company it was with and no documents - a lot has happened in the last 24 years and I've lost pretty much everything.
What I'd like to know is - is there a way I can trace this policy myself as I would be hard pushed to find the £18 or so which is charged for the searches - especially as there is the chance that it might not exist.
Also - if I did have a policy would the amount I've paid in attract interest or would it just sit there or, even worse, as I didn't complete the term would it just have been reclaimed by the company?
Any help much appreciated.
Sue

If you stopped payments after 18-20 months its quite probable that there would have been no value on the policy. In that era, you often had to go 2-5 years to see any value.

Even if there was a value, it would be tiny because most endowments of that time didnt start putting money into the investment side until months 18-24. The same sort of time you stopped paying.

I would think it isnt worth the effort and not worth paying for.
