Please help!! Im so confused

I have missed payments with two loans and an overdraft. I am trying to sort them out and pay back what I owe but Im really confused with all these debt companies that keep sending me letters. I have recently moved back to my parents due to a relationship breakdown but can't stay with them very long. I want to pay back what I owe but Im really confused. I have written to Lloyds Bank asking them to send me a breakdown of what I owe but I have heard nothing back from them. Am I meant to? I have had two debt companies contact me - one wrote to my parents address although there was no proof I lived there since I hadn't moved back then. And another company (Apex Debt Managers)sent their letter to me ex partners house. I have written back to the one debt company who have contacted me and asked them to prove they have the debt like their letter said they did. I have heard nothing back from them except that the account is now on hold while they get together all the documents. However I have now had a third letter from a completely different company to my parents address - they threaten with all the usual stuff but what I don't understand is they are asking for exactly the same amount as the Apex company and its the same amount to the penny. How many debt management companies can the Bank give my debt too? This is worrying me because if I do owe to all three companies I owe alot more than I thought I did and will be paying all this back for years to come. But in order to find out I need to speak to Lloyds but I can't get Lloyds to contact me back. Please help me sort this out because I am now at a loss as to what to do - I want to pay it back and get sorted with reasonable monthly amounts that I can pay back until my debts are gone.

    Hi there

    It does seem quite confusing!

I think I would continue to do what you have done - write to the companies you have your loans and overdrafts with and ask for a breakdown of exactly waht you owe. If you've written before, include the initial letter and point out you haven't heard back (perhaps clarify your current address, if you have recently moved). Ask them if they have passed your debt onto a collection agency (you don't need to mention you know they already have), and if so, which company, so you can contact the collection agency to inform them you are waiting on clarification from your creditors. Then write a letter to the collection agencies to say you have done this and are awaiting responses from your creditors.

If it still is very confusing, I'd see if you can visit your local citizen's advice bureau and take all correspondence with you; just going through it with some-one else can help. (if you have a friend or family member you'd feel comfortable doing this with, that might be quicker than waiting for an appointment at CAB)

  • Thanks for your help. I will write to Lloyds again, asking them to send me yet again a copy of what I owe and which debt management companies they have got involved to collect my debt and I hope they will contact me back this time.

Keep pestering them! Just keep copies of everything! As long as you can show you've been trying to sort it out, you'll be ok. And try not to worry - you're doing as much as you can; you can't do more until Lloyds get back to you!

    Good luck :)
