Final demand for debt I didn't know I had!!

Hi guys...
I moved house six months ago, so cancelled my gym membership by email. I said, I will assume this is all fine unless I hear nothing back - I heard nothing back, so assumed all was fine.
My ex-housemate called me today and said I have a final demand for £64 from the gym for not paying the notice period for cancellation. She says the final date for payment is today, before it goes to court - but because she only told me just now - i.e. when the office is closed - I can't make it today.
I have no bones about paying the bill if that's what I owe - but I really don't want to go to court. I'm a bit cross with my friend for not passing on the message sooner - but will I be ok to pay this on Monday, considering I didn't even know I owed them money??
Any advice gratefully received....

Just call them first thing Monday and sort it out. Explain what happened and all should be fine.0
