You are returning to the job you left - a 17 hour week at a nursery - and I would hazard an educated guess that your terms and conditions of service have not been changed.
I think that the arrangement to work mornings was nothing more than an agreement that fitted the workplace at the time. If you look at your Terms and Conditions you will probably see that your employer can specify when you are required to work and that times can be changed due to the 'exigencies of the workplace'.
There is not enough work in the mornings. You would be redundant, your skills would be wasted and you'd be standing around doing sweet all while your colleagues are pulled out and overworked in the afternoons. It makes sense for the manager to put staff where they are needed most, rather than make one of the nursery staff redundant or dispense with their services.0 -
I only want to stick to my 17 hours which isnt a problem. I just want it to be mornings. They had someone for my maternity leave so rightly they can shove them around to a different shift. They were taken on based on my maternity.
BUT if they took someone on a permanent contract and have had them working afternoons, life might be more interesting.I know i sound terrible but at the end of the day if i cant get the morning im unable to return to work which will not only drive me mad but i will become just another unemployed number claiming benefits which i havent done and really dont want to.midnight_ninja wrote: »You should be allowed to return to the job you left , and if you have your change of hours to mornings in writing its only going to support your claim , basically tell them you know your rights and you'll take it further if you cant return to the job you left
As well as ACAS to confirm your rights, I'd contact HR to ask about policies. It may be that a new manager is doing her best to deploy staff most effectively without realising what constraints there are. I'm not sure.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
