Right Road

I've posted my SOA before and have had some fab advice for people on here.

Today I received a bill that made me feel sick as I know I can't afford to pay it :( so I have done the CCCS remedy on-line and applied for my pack to be sent in the post. I have also got an application form for a basic bank account and I am going to fill this in and return it in the morning

I still feel sick and like I want to cry but I know I am doing the right thing now.

I have a few questions and I am hoping people will be able to help?

*How long will it take to get my pack through the post?

*I can't afford to make all my payments due at the end of this month, what do I do? Do I cancel my DD's and offer goodwill payments?

*How do I deal with calls/letters form the people I owe money to when they don't get their money?

*My Gas bill is due soon and I do not know if I will be able to pay this? If I call them and tell them I am having problems would they understand and offer payment options?

You need to pay your rent/mortgage, CT, gas and electric and food plus any secured debts. Do you have enough for that?

Add food and transport to work.

if you do not have enough to pay all your other debts, work out how much you can afford and send a pro-rata payment this month. Thsi means if you owe £1000 to one company and £9000 to another and can only pay £20, you send £2 to the first and £18 to the second.

    Thank you,

I will try to work out the pro-rate payments tonight. How do I offer these payments? Do I cancel my DD and send a letter with a cheque? If so is there a template letter I can use any where?

  • I just sent a letter with my token payment cheque. It said something along the lines of "I am currently seeking debt advice from CCCS and will contact them in the near future with my proposals for debt repayments"

That kept them quiet for about 2 months while i got everything sorted. Dont worry too much about nasty letters and just ignore the phone calls, they are irritating but unfortunately theres not much you can do other than change your number.

Above all, dont worry too much, you're doing the right thing.

Sarah, have a look at this thread as there's loads of letter templates. Hopefully one of them will help.

If you need more help, maybe some of the posters on that thread can be of more help?

And if not, post up what you've managed to put together so far - it might be easier for folks to give constructive advice if they can see what you are trying to do.

    Good luck.

  • Thank you I'll have a look at the link, I want something along the lines of -

    Dear Sir/Madam

Due to a change in personal circumstance I have found myself in financial difficulty.

I am currently seeking debt advice form CCCS and will contact you in the near future with a proposal for debt repayment.

Until this time please accept the enclosed cheque for £x as a goodwill payment towards my account

    Many Thanks

I am going to sit down tonight once the little one is in bed and work out pro-rate payment for them all.

    Hi Sarah

I don't think there's anything wrong with that - it says all it needs to concisely and in plain English - both of those things are always good in my opinion!

Once you've worked out the pro rata figures tonight, I think you'll be good to go! :)
