Riser Chairs

Options
Hi, hope someone on this board can help. My elderly father has difficulty getting out of his armchair, so I want to buy a riser/recliner chair. Does anyone know where I can get a reasonably priced one here in NI? Cheapest so far is £450 for single motor one.

Hi Passlady, not sure about buying one, but if your Father has difficulties to to medical conditions he *may* be able to get one through his Doctor. A relative of mine has just had his replaced though he has serious mobility probelms due to medical conditions. Worth a shot though.

Thanks for the reply but he has no medical problems that affect his mobility. Unfortunately just one of those things about old age.

About three years ago I had the same sitution with my own mother, I looked in "Tools for living " in Ballymena. They are specialists in this field and come out and take personal measurmenss then the product is made to measure.
I can't remember what the price was, but it wasn't cheap. I do know that I discovered who made the chairs for them and I was able to go direct to them.
The company who actually make the chairs are called Madden Brothers, based in Pennybridge Industrial Estate, Ballymena.
  • I'm just home from Comber and noticed a shop called the Storey Store..it does disability stuff.

I've no idea of prices or stock but have found their website...

£450 is a good price. My uncle paid £750 for his.
  • I thought that too so we bought it! They Knocked £10 off and delivered FOC. My Dad is pleased with it and does the job he wants!
    Many thanks for the help.
  • PLEASE tell me you havent gone and bought one of these. I am a Community Occupational Therapist and your father doesn't have to have medical problems to get one of these supplied by us. It is assessed by functional need not on what his medical diagnosis is (or lack of). If your father has significant problems rising from his chair he would be eligible. Please make a referral to your local Community Occupational Therapy Dept. You don't need to ask his GP. He can self refer or family members can make the referral over the phone. He will then be placed on the waiting list and will be assessed in his own home by one of us. You can purchase one from any of the places stated by other posters, most places that supply disabled equipment will have them so you could just look in the yellow pages. These chairs ARE expensive and seriously if he has difficulty with his chair transfers he more than likely would be issued one by us, free of charge of course!!
  • Oh so sorry. Missed your last post somehow. Didn't realise you'd already bought it.

Never worry but that information is good to know. I have friends who have relatives in similar situations and will pass it on. Thanks.
