How many wears before a wash?

Options
I was going to start this post with 'I know this sounds like a weird question', but then I realised that pretty much anything seems to go in OS, so here it is:

I wouldn't dream of wearing a top for two days running, but I sometimes wear trousers for a couple of days. Fresh undies daily. OH is perfectly happy to wear manky clothes on a daily basis (but doesn't have to spend time with the public unlike me), but I try to snap 'em up and wash 'em when possible.

This means that I am constantly washing and drying clothes, and that all my clothes get faded and worn very quickly. It also means that were I to iron things as much as I really ought to, I wouldn't have ANY spare time at all!

Am I a clean freak, or is this normal? I feel like I am doing the laundry for a large family of under 5s!

I must be a freak as well then.

I will only wear any clothes for one day. Can't abide the feeling of putting on clothes that I have already worn.

During the heatwave a few weeks ago I was wearing two sets of clothes a day as I was having an early evening shower to get rid of that "sticky" feeling and no way could I put the clothes I had on during the day back on again.

    This is me too.
  • This sounds pretty normal to me, I generally do around 3 loads of washing a week - one for dark clothes, one for light clothes and the other for bedding. I'm obsessed with it I think! As soon as I've finished a load I'm looking for more dirty washing :rotfl: I can't stand having anything in the dirty laundry basket!

I've found that by putting dirty washing in the machine with the detergent, softener and programme already selected, and then adding things each morning until the machine is full seems to help a little. Sometimes I'll put the machine on overnight and then hang things out to dry first thing in the morning, it doesn't feel so much of an effort then for some reason.
Its nice to be important but more important to be nice!

Pretty much the same in my house.
I won't put knickers I've already been wearing back on after a bath or shower, so I sometimes change my undies twice a day. During the heatwave I was often changing my top twice a day too, though usually I don't mind putting the same top back on if I have a bath or shower during the day.
I tend to wear clothes which require minimal ironing, and also buy non-iron clothes for my son as much as possible.
I remember reading an ad in a really old magazine (1960s I think) which said that research had shown that most people change their clothes when they smell sweaty even if they're not actually visibly dirty. The things we take for granted nowadays!
I'm trying to convince my hubby that one ought to change one's socks when they stink, even if that's more than once a day in warm weather.

  • Me too :o But then I am the girl who won't leave the house without a shower, hair washed + blow dried in the morning, even just to go to the corner shop. I don't feel 'right' if I haven't got a clean body and clean clothes to start the day off.......

And I love clean sheets on my bed - it feels like a treat so I have been known to change them a couple of times a week, rather than the usual once.

I've got a stupid question too. I live on my own so can quite freely potter around in my pyjamas on a weekend if I so wish if I'm not going out. However, I've noticed that if I have my shower and get dressed, hair-dried etc early on, I get sooooo much more done. If I spend too much time in my pyjamas, it seems to make me so much more lethargic and I don't get as much housework done. Anyone else? Or is it just me who's an oddball  :D

It's not just you. If I don't wash my hair I get nothing done. Hair washed every day without fail or I'm completely unmotivated.

I quite like the days when I get up and into scruffy clothes, do housework, then shower and do my hair and get into nice clothes, that works too!

Well, I'm a bit surprised at some of you guys, seemingly making work for yourselves. For me it's nothing regimented... if I get a top dirty that day, it goes in the wash. When clothes are dirty I wash them, but don't wash for the sake of it. Obviously underwear and socks are different, and a daily change, but other items as and when. That means on a hot day maybe I wear 2 tops and wash them both, but on a cool day when I haven't done anything dirty, I might rewear the item for 2 or 3 days.

I change my top most days because I walk a lot and get a bit sweaty. But I will wear a t shirt for about 3 days if it's not dirty and it's just us pottering around.

Jeans I change when they need changing. Usually every 3 or 4 days. Socks and pants, daily or more if I shower again eg to go out in the evening. Bras about twice a week.

I'm not going anywhere posh (or work) so I just wear the same stuff till it gets changed and then wear something else. I never have once worn clothes waiting to be worn again before I wash them. If it's not dirty enough to need washing, I wear it the next day.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.
