İ am leaning towards the sage experience and comments by george's friend who got no final bonus--how is best to surrender if the figures dont pan out--surrender to sl --let ifa help or go online to sell--any recommendations who or where is best??

What do these figures refer to?

As already pointed out, you need to post the maturity forecasts ( usually quoted on the basis of 4%,6%,8%).Perhaps you will need to call them again.

these figures for future forcasts arent reliable as i have come to realise over the years--its a pig in a poke--the value i go by is the surrender value or the max surrender value--i am trying to get a figure on what pc sl is offering this years with profits-they wont give punters that info and i am seeking underhand exploration!!-i cant see the figures they project because i never see yearly my statement --and they are just advisory--if you look back to glorious george 's friends policy recent experience of sl there was no terminal bonus and its becoming increasingly common in these uncertain days-the open market isnt buying these policies at a decent rate because they see no value in the completion-

Of course they aren't reliable. Nobody has a crystal ball. But if you want to compare returns, they are all you have.We cannnot do a calculation without them.

If you want to try selling, you can get global quotes here:

    https://www.apmm.org

I think you will find they want to know the projections.

i can get 6,50 pc net on my savings where i live now--plus its easy to make returns of 10pc on larger amounts--i am no optimist about the uk future and this endowments return is telling me i made a wide decision sometime back to put my money elsewhere--the only risk i incurr here is the exchange fluctation but it modulates and i am in no hurry to move cash

i have just done a quick sum based on my 6,50pc saving accnt--17973 x 6,50pc for 15 months is 1460 plus 15 x 40,60 my sl payments --609= 2069 almost guaranteed- against Sl advisory possible bonus which means nothing! -i can make 10pc with study on a bond or something like that here--mortgages and aprs are about 25pc in this neck of the world!-all my figures are after tax-

  • Hi de1amo

I am in a similar position to you and I contacted
www.apmm.org and received lots of offers. Some
wanted to auction the policy and some offering up
to £500 over surrender value (on a £11000 value)
    Still considering all the offers.

Incidentally where are you living that you can get
returns of 10% on larger amounts, might sell up and join
    you!

Hi steve-im in Turkey where the sun is shinning and life is cheap-lots of expats used to come here and live off savings interest because the rates used to be much higher.--when i first came here i got an exchange rate of 1gbp to 2,76tl---its down to 1gbp 2,4 turkish lira at the moment but it fluctuates--thats the main worry about bringing money here--i have seen rates as high as 17pc on savings when i first arrived but the whole world has 'shrunk' since then--the expats that have sold up and came here are feeling a big sick--they might have to work or go home!--they cant live off 6,50pc! you can get 10 pc on bonds of every type but with a bit more risk !--you now have to have a turkish tax number to have savings accounts here but it wasnt so difficult when i came!
i have invested in businesses here and get 10pc dividens plus growth on a normal basis-i work in education and its a growth area in the economy-the ecomomy is growing still!
i still need the experts here to test my figures and feelings-i am not totally adverse to keeping my policy--if i close it it will have been a crap investment!but it could get worse!

  • Hi de1amo

My policy is with Clerical Medical and they were reluctant to talk about final bonuses instead quoting the standard growth figures of 4% 6% & 8%.(mine has 3 years to go)
I figure what with the premium savings over 3 years and investing the lump sum I can do as good or better even allowing for BR tax.

Turkey was one of the holiday destinations reviewed in the Sundays last week and I think it came out top for cost of living increases so maybe the party is over!
