Self assessment allowances

Hi all,

Just after a bit of advice for when i do my self assessment in april.
Last march i started working for myself but found i tough finding enough work to pay the bills so decided to pay to go on a 6 week training course to learn some new skills to help me find more work. It cost me £2500 plus i bought a van for the same amount. Just want to know if i would be able to claim anything back in my tax return and if so is it likely to be much?

Cheers,

Mike.

You would be able to put through the cost of your van using AIA (Annual Allowance upto £50,000).

The training course wouldn't be allowable if its a new skill. If you are enhancing skills you already have that is ok.

ie. so say you are a trained plumber any new training to enhance your already achieved skills would be ok; but if you are starting to train as a plumber without any previous knowledge this wouldn't be.

    Hope this helps.
