Hi MotherB and welcome to the forum, no need to explain yourself on here we are all non judgemental :D I am waiting for my IPA to be arranged, as I will have quite a big surplus also, but every situation is different. Hope the IPA figures helped you. :D

Not too sure about the pension side of it, if your OH income was totally from benefits they would not get an IPA, but it depends on the pension here so not too sure. In my case my wifes income is from benefits so she will not get one, whilst my income is an employers pension and benfeits so I will get one.
Also you do not have to save the extra income, once you have agreed the IPA you will be given a date when it starts, it is not done retrospectively. I went BR in November and mine is not in place yet.

That is exactly the position I am in, so there would be no reduction for your OH. Feel free to ask as many questions as you need, this forum is brilliant, there is always someone who can help you :D

Thanks for that think i understand it now don't think we will be paying as much as i thought on ipa:)
  • thanks for all of your info its so comforting to know I am not the only one in this position even though it feels like I have three heads and not in the land of the living sometimes!
    :j
My husband and I had a disposable income of approx £750, we have four children and a rent of approx £850, we used the general guidlines for the SOA and included childcare expenses, our IPA ended up being £300 pmth.

Hope that helps anyone as I know it is a very uncertain time when you are waiting to hear about your IPA, I have to say I expected worse so I was actually relieved when we got ours.

It is good to here that you only had ipa of £300 but i thought they take 70% of disposable income over £500 :)
