İ am from England and have a home in sunny Bournemouth but for reasons of nature i find myself now living in a large and lovely city on the west coast of Turkey. İ am new to any kind of forum but love to be money savvy and wish i could find a site like this in Turkey--maybe we could teach Martin Turkish!! -i do not speak Turkish so i could keep him company!--My wife runs my life and source of income!!--i scheme and plot and send her off with my instructions!--we have recently opened a 'boutique accademy for posh kids and adults wanting to learn languages-its mainly English but we get odd foreigners who want to learn Turkish!! there you go Martin!!
i come here to keep my finances in the uk 'well' but i enjoy sharing and hope someone wants to hear the financial life of a Brit who has made the leap --i dont understand everything due to my lack of linguistic ability but i support my family and have gained great insight in the 3 years i have been here--i do not live in an expats world but real day to day stuff!!-i hope this isnt posted in the wrong place and someone is interested

thanks--on quick flick it seems to be aimed at expats living in the ex pat resorts-i came to turkey as no rich man and have had to start from zero and encounter the real life of affordability --i will try to explain--i arrived with my suitcase in 2006 to meet my to be wife at the airport--after 3 months i decided to buy a place as i saw i could make a buck and couldnt beleive the affordablity-the expats are going into ghettos where the cost of living and buying homes is put out of reach of normal Turks(and the populace dont like us for that!)-where i live is normal and very lovely--it has good schools and services and many yanks venture to live here but i know no Brits!--there is even now budget for a holiday home in a real turkish resort--a 3 bedroom house with garden close to the sea and port for 200 a month--a world away from expat prices!

i had a thought as i showered --difference between me and expats--i can live in my home for 12 months-what happens in the ex pat places when the tourist go home and its small towns ville--the previously mentioned holiday home is in such a l tourist place and virtually unliveable in winter--its dead and there is no gas--even the turks would never consider retiring to them full time! and people like dentists and doctors who do private treatment vacate to seek richer pickings in the city-to connect this to finance --do expats have 2 homes and how do they afford it when not working??

dole money??in Turkey---long way to go to sign on fortnightly!! i have joined the site that i was recommened and i am soon realising the days of the expat are not as comfortable as the programmes have you beleive--they cant keep warm in the winter because their villas are ill equiped for the cold--no insullation and no gas!--the sunshines but its down to 0 or minus numbers at the moment!
