what is your tax code?
what are the 'total to date' figures for your earnings and your tax on your last payslip?
does the 'total to date' of your earnings inlcude your JSA payments ?0 -
If you were claiming JSA when you were unemployed the DWP should have sent you a P45 when you signed off. This should in turn allow your employer to make any necessary tax refund through their payroll. Given that JSA is taxable and you've been working five months or so it's probable that you'll have caught with any unused tax allowances and therefore should be paying tax as normal by now.
If you had no taxable income while you were unemployed then you probably shouldn't be paying tax yet. If this is the case ask your employer for a P46 and hope HMRC issue a new tax code before the end of the current financial year.
As far as claiming a tax refund after the end of the financial year, employers are required an Employer's Annual Return (form P35). The deadline for submitting this is 19th May so you may have to wait a couple of months for HMRC to collate all your income details. I wouldn't expect a refund quite as early as April. The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water
