paddling pool cleaner

Really stressing as bought £45 paddling pool, 10ft wide and after one day horrible green water no one will get into. Checked web site of makers and say contact pool suppliers. One I researched selling really expensive products. Not sure what I should buy. Came with a filter but that doesnt cut down on green slime. Like what is in fish tanks. Any help please. Gutted as feel wasted money on something I cant use.

Can fill pool with hose pipe per my water supplier, just checked there site.

I'm afraid the problem is photosynthesis by the algae in the pool water. With all the sun at the moment it is not a suprise! If you keeping your pool water for any length of time you will need to treat it. This site is worth having a look at:

    http://www.chemipool.com/

We have a 12' pool and find that keeping the cover on when not inuse really helps. Apart from shocking with chlorine to kill algae, there are products available to remove the phosphates from the tap water - which they feed on - or the use of copper ions to kill algae. It is important to treat in some way - before the algae gets hold - 'cos algae in swimming pool water provides an ideal substrate for the growth and reproduction of bacteria, which feed off the oxygen and sugars produced during photosynthesis.

The filters which come with the pools are crude and meant only to remove large objects and not algae! We find that using the cover when the pool is not in use, keeping the chemicals at the corect level and daily use of a fishing net gives us plenty of pool life. The other option is to change the water on a regular basis while there is no drought order!
I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!

Lord Gardener is right, you need to treat the water. You will probably have to buy a starter kit, available from lots of people online (and ebay). This will probably last year 2 seasons.

We fill our pool in the Spring and treat every couple of days, it lasts til the Autumn when we dismantle and put away until next year. For about £35 I find this very cost effective.

Thanks for that but just drained it and cleaned it out. Took ages, (thanks hubby) My friend has no problem with hers at all. She told me about a tip she got of using two sterilizing tablets used for babies bottles.

Pool didnt come with a cover. Checked with my water company and say I can fill pool though will only try once more as feel guilty doing it.

I know this is an old thread, but replying in case it helps anyone...
we have an 'easy-set' round pool, about 10' diameter, which the kids love in the summer and which I found great for cooling off in while heavily pregnant! It didn't come with a cover either, but I found an alternative. Got a cheap cover for a large outdoor dining table - it tightens with a drawstring. Now obviously if you have small children around you need to be extra-careful with any sort of cover in case they go under it and you can't see them, but if yours are of a sensible age then this could be helpful. We have also employed the trampoline's winter cover as a summer paddling pool cover.

Regarding the OP's guilt... when our pool gets manky I bucket the water out and use it to give the vegetables etc.. a really good soak. I'm going to buy a submersible pump so that I can do this with less effort. And we're on a water meter so I don't feel guilty;)

We have a cover for ours its been up a week and really hasn't gone green at all .. I use an old pond pump to empty it and just move the hose around the garden to give the borders a soaking.. its so much easier.. I just switch it on and move the hose every few minutes..
