    I'm out of ideas then:o

Crawl through the computation and check that the PA etc are all as expected. Other than that stick your precise P60 figs on here and someone will cross check them ..... the anomaly has to be there somewhere?

(I assume the 'sole trader' quote did only relate to the £60 for that year?)
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
  • Not sure how you submitted it, but assuming you did it manually and sent to HMRC to calculate the tax?

Was this done before last October?

Also have you tried phoning the HMRC for an explanation?
  • I've gone thru the return a load of times.

    My P60 info:

    Tax code 603L
    Tax total for year 23492.88
    Tax deducted 3490.60

    Student loan contributions: £0

No maternity pay or anything like that.

    NI:

    Table letter A
    LEL: 4680
earnings above LEL up to ET: 780
    Above ET: 18032
    Employees contributions: 1983.51

No contracted-out numbers or anything like that.

    What a mare!

Hey - nah, i'm still doing it online, but yes, manually...at the start of the post is the HMRC's online calculation. Tried to call them tonight but was on hold for soo long then they closed :(

  • and yes - the £60 is my sole trader earnings. everything on the P60 is my 'day job'

  • You are using the HMRC online tool, manually putting the figures into the online software?

Okay, for the self employment bit, what start date and date your accounts are made up to did you use?

Ie what date the self employment started and what date was the end of the first accounting period for the self employment?

The P60 details you have for your job are correct save for 40p

Think this holds the figures for you? If not just input them yourself - taking care to move the year to 08-09.

Within a £1 or so your P60 checks out fine :-

.......... sorry, can only suggest you fine check the input detail to SA as the £60 should only create a further payment of circa £12.

  • Yes - duffelcoat1

Start date was 26/03/2009 - which is the date of my only invoice. This is the first date of self-employment.

    Accounts made up to 05/04/09.

Your employer needs a Start notice from HMRC to initiate taking payments. But that's normally triggered by the SLC. You need to talk to them (SLC) if you're now at the point you should be repaying.
