Alliance and leicester cashback account

I was just wondering if anyone had had any problems getting the cashback on A&L as long as they have added their direct debits and paid at least £500 into the account each month.
Is it possible I wont get the cashback if I don't put my salary in (and just pay the £500 a month in)?
What if I get them to not transfer a standing order?

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi do you mean the cash back for using their account switching sevice? I opened an acc with them and although id asked them to switch everything i did it myself as they were taking so long, anyway eventually it all got switched and i got my cashback, i took about 3 months.:j
  • I do not know...did you find an answer?
  • donz1507 - Yeah that's right. They have got all the details from my old bank now - but 3 months? Sheesh. Hope it doesn't take that long for me! Did you get the cashback?

    bbtl2009 - not yet :)

All my DDs were switched in December (applied Sept) but it wasn't until January that my pay went into new account. I transferred £500 just after Christmas and got the £100 within a couple of days.

So I think transferring to make sure is a good idea.

  • its was quicker for me, within Six weeks.

I have to say its not a great bank tho! I am in the process of moving back to my old bank!

    Nevertheless she persisted.
  • Thanks for the help everyone. I'll see how it goes over the next few months. So far haven't got all the direct debits ported over, but supposedly that'll take place in the next 2 weeks or so.
Made a fast payment into A&L the other day so hopefully all should be well there. Downside is that I haven't heard about the credit card yet.

Why do you say not a great bank? I must admit, if you are overdrawn all the time (which we are) then A&L is the better bank, esp for the first year. But if in credit, it looks like Halifax are better with the changes they have made, and we plan to pay off the overdrafts in the next few months. So I'm keeping old account too, thinking I will probably switch back.

What are your reasons (sorry for being nosy :))?

  • Personally it looks to me like A&L is great after the first year when you're overdrawn too, as they only charge a flat rate of £5 a month, whereas Halifax is £1 a day when it's an agreed od.

  • i have this account. I don't pay my salary in just transfer £500 every month, I transferred some of my DDs. It was all very quick and I got the £100 bonus payment pretty quick too.

I have to say I find them to be very helpful although I've only ever had routine requests. £5 per month for an overdraft is pretty good too. Although obv better to have no o/d so working to get this down!!

Thanks for the thread Moodyblues - I don't think I'm as far along in the process as you are. Waiting to hear what happens next, judging by the responses, I can expect to wait a while yet

They offered me a £550 o/d even though tha's more than double my current o/d and I said I didn't want one. Bizarre! Need to pretend that doesn't exist ;)

Have to say I find most banks much of a muchness. I'm swapping in protest at HBOS and RBS o/d charges and because, at the moment, my current account is with RBS - to whom I also owe the most amount of money (excluding the mortgage!).
