However I still think the OP would have been better off sending it back return to sender (possibly after opening it as it's not against the law....but sending it back so they know it didn't reach it's intended recipient)
My mum did this for just over 18mths and they still rolled inDebtFree FEB 2010!Slight blip in 2013 - Debtfree Aug 2014 :j

Thanks all.
Yes, I was tempted to send the letter back, but I recognised where it had come from, so wanted to see what they were planning on doing. I am glad I did as I would like to know if they are coming round. I too doubt they will I think it's just empty threats at the minute.
I will report if anything else develops!0 -
If you are the occupier, it IS addressed to you and therefore the OFT guidelines have been breached.
I have put a template letter on this thread.
Unfortunately, the OFT seems to simply put complaints into a pile and do something if they get enough. The Financial Ombudsman Service will look at each individual complaint.0 -

Thanks for this. I certainly am the occupier and have owned and lived in my flat for nearly 3 years. I will keep a note of that link and if they really start getting shirty and rude then I will use it. I am not scared or worried about them, but dont like companies taking innocent people for a ride - or trying to grab guilty people with unfair tactics!
As a side note, I have just done a credit report check on me to see if this guy is tied to me in anyway through my flat and it came back with a glowing report (as expected) and no mention of him at all. So at least I know there are no ties there at all and they can "jog on".
Thanks again.0 -
just a very cheeky idea and probably not possible, just wondering does anyone think the OP could actually invoice the debt collections company for administration costs and for any cost of calls to said debt collection agency for sorting out their error?
Just thinking along the lines that the debt collection companies charge administration fees for these types of things so surely it could be possible to reciprocate?
sorry its just turning into a very very slow Friday morning!Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -

You should have just marked it - no longer at this address - or - not known at this address - and returned it to the sender. It is against the law to open mail which is not addressed to you and this is set out in The Post Office Act 19530

Just for an update: I received another letter today from the same company saying that I hadn't responded to the last letter so they will be sending someone round in the next 5 days. This letter was actually addressed to someone though rather than just "the occupier". It was addressed to a person who used to rent my flat out before I bought it 2 and half years ago. No idea who or where this bloke is now.I thought the OP said it was addressed to "The Occupier"?
The OP updated that he had received a second letter which was addressed to someone, rather than just the occupier - that is what I was referring to.
However, I am happy to have been corrected and admit I got things wrong;)NR [STRIKE]£5542[/STRIKE]£2771 BC [STRIKE]£7987[/STRIKE]£7700 BC [STRIKE]£3000[/STRIKE]£5100 Cat1 Pd Cat2 Pd Ulstr [STRIKE]£3400[/STRIKE]£3070 TSB [STRIKE]£4851[/STRIKE]£4400 MBNA [STRIKE]£7700[/STRIKE]£3887 NWst [STRIKE]£950[/STRIKE] £700 Hfx [STRIKE]£10097[/STRIKE]£10050 Asda [STRIKE]£398[/STRIKE] £315 HFX1 Pd Hfx2 [STRIKE]£3133[/STRIKE] £3000
