in Cutting tax
I started work on a 6 month contract in September having previously been on JSA for the tax year. When I started work I gave them my P45 from leaving benefits but ever since my tax code has been 647L NON CU and I've been charged for PAYE as if I have had the job since the beginning of the tax year, rather than the reduced pro-rata rate for only working half the year (and so my salary being much less over my allowance).
How do I go about getting this rectified?
If I ring the tax office and tell them will they get this sorted for my next pay or will I need to wait til the end of the tax year & then reclaim the amount?

Give HMRC a call and advise them of the JSA amount you received from April to September.
They will issue a new code and send it to your employer, once they have it they will rework out the tax you should have paid and refund any overpayments back into your wages. He's not an accountant - he's a charlatan0
