Again you are doing what suits you and not what the customer wants,

I said I supported this idea right at the beginning, and I still do, provided you can get enough customers.

But I don't think it's a case of a regular window cleaner doing what suits them and not what suits the customer. It's a case of doing what works. it is always better to have regular customers than rely on enough one off jobs coming in.

I think you have set your mind on "Do what the customer wants and are not thinking how hard it will actually be".

If you do the windows when the customer want's them done then you will be running all over town. You may even just clean a quarter of the houses per day that a "normal" window cleaner does. Are you going to charge 4 x the price to make up for that?

If you book them in when you are going to be in that area, then you are not doing what they want. As you have said, they want a window cleaner when they want one, not when the window cleaner want's to come.

The truth is most window cleaners will offer a 4/8/12 weekly clean some just dont tell the customer this

Well if they don't tell the customers, they are not offering it, are they?

John the only people that will be phoning you are the ones in the area that you are canvassing, this method is working very well,
And yes i do have a very compact round for the last 7 years,

i am building this work up for my mate and nephew who leaves school in the summer so we will be covering regulars and those who want dial-a-clean and believe me there is plenty that would want their windows cleaned in this way
  • seen your thread on clean it up forum (i think),and then on here.i have been thinking of starting up a part time window cleaning bussiness and maybe gutters too.would do it after finishing work at 4pm and 6 hours or so on a saturday dial a clean,i think would be a good way for me to start with. would place some adverts in local shops and post offices and possibly local paper.if i could earn £100 a week steady away i would be happy with that for now. thanks sam:)

if you want to start cleaning windows you will have to start doing them on a saturday, provided it`s not raining,

best not to try and do them after 4 when you finish work this is ok in the summer months when it is light but in winter it will be dark at 4
a good way is to go door knocking on a saturday and take you`r ladders with you so you can clean them there and then.

as for the dial-a-clean it would not suit you as you have a day job as well.

It is working for me very well i am setting up a website so people can book online, on it will be a list of areas we will be working in and when we will be in that area

this is taking off faster than i thought it would and i am enjoying it as every day is not doing the same old houses new houses and meeting new people, the feedback i am getting from the new customers has been good to say the least some are saying it`s a service that customers have been crying out for.

OH and sam if you go out in the evenings to canvass even if you only got one customer a day every day you will have a full round by the end of the year
  • Hi all, just before christmas i asked a few window cleaners if they would clean my windows so they came round and gave me a quote and they were reasonable, when i said i normally clean my own windows and i didnt have enough time to do them b4 xmas and only wanted them done 0nce or twice a year they ran a mile,so i think Dial-a-clean is a great idea and please can i have the phone number for them?

Ok update as what has been happening with my dial-a-clean

well it is taking off faster and better that i first thought,

Why well i have been getting customers phoning me up to book in a clean and to say it`s a service that a lot of customers have been crying out for,
Other customers will still be happy to have them cleaned on a regular basis as i have quite a few myself,

i am going to be setting up a website for the dial-a-clean customers on it will be the areas that we will be covering and when we will be in that area as for prices in my area i have a mixture of £5/6/7/10 houses to give you an example:

    £5 every 4 weeks
    £7 every 8 weeks
    £9 every 12 weeks

now after a period of time i will end up with a mixture of 4/8/12 weeklys
i am also targeting 12 weekly customers as this will almost double the amount i would take for 4 weekly cleans my target is to have 300 customers a month on 12 weekly cleans this will take time i know but it can and will be done what you have to remember is these customers in effect will become regulars on a 12 weekly clean yes it will mean
A target of 900 new customers 75 a month canvassing 6 nights a week to gain 3 customers a night working during the day helps as well as this adds to your target in effect what you are doing is earning £2700 a month for the same amont of customers as to £1500 you would get for the 4 weeklys at £5.

I am picking up new customers every day that i am out because one of us is canvassing the streets we are in and the streets close by as well it is hard work but it will be worth it in the end,

Even just one new customer a day every day for a year will give you 300+ new customers a year

I am building a team of 3/4 so as i will be doing 4 weeklys an other the 8 weeklys and the other the 12 weeklys the other guy will be doing all the guttering that we have been getting in then we plan to swap our jobs on a rota basis so as we don`t get bored with the same old houses as you all know this happens from time to time
