employer offering less than minimum wage

I have an application form for a little job I quiet fancy doing , just cleaning a bathroom showroom 7 hours a week but it fits within school hours and will be a bit of pocket money , when i was speaking to the lady she told me the wage was £5.50ph and Iaccepted that but hubby has just pointed out to me that its less than minimum wage and I am not sure what to do about it .
I really want this job , should i mention it or see if i get the job and then mention it or just not mention it at all ?

Mention it before you take it. The reaction will tell you things you might not discover for months.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Agree - I expect DV Shadow means that you will discover VERY early on that "you name it - they will try it on". I tend to agree.
So - basically you have two options:
1. Take the job at the stated rate of pay and report them to the Minimum Wage people after you have been in it over a year - and "fight your way" through to get the money they owe you by then. Result = you get the money on the one hand and probably get sacked on any feeble excuse they can think of.
2. Find a "tactful" way at the outset to state that you would like the job - but are aware it should pay at least NMW per hour. Say that - subject to them upping the rate to NMW then you would be more than happy to take the job. The ball is then in their court.0 -

Min wage adult is £5.80?
It may well be a typo, so tread carefully when you raise it.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
You could earn more than that doing private cleaning in people's homes.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

They probably have no idea the minimum wage has even changed!! I'd just approach it politely and say you'd just noticed that the salary says £5.50, which is below the minimum wage, so was that correct?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0
