Jobseeking after sick leave

Hello, I wonder if I could have some advice?

I work in IT and took around 2 months' sick leave last year due to depression. I'm still receiving treatment for this so it's under control now. I returned to work about 3 months ago. However, I didn't return to my previous ultra-demanding role (thank goodness!) - basically I'm 'jobless' within the company. Now I have to find myself an alternative role in the company within a certain time frame or I get made redundant. I still have a month or two before the axe falls, but I'm really struggling to find something.

Although I want to be as gentle with myself as possible I'm just eager to start working again before I lose my confidence, which is already pretty low! Even the few jobs I'm applying for within my company are a bit demanding or would involve a 50-100 mile commute. So I'm beginning to think 'in for a penny, in for a pound' and if I'm going to have to take a stressful role anyway then maybe I'd be doing myself a favour to also apply externally for jobs. The only thing is, is there any point? Will my sick leave record count badly against me? I'm reluctant to expose my ego to any more unneccessary battering at the moment but if I play it safe and just jobhunt within my company, it's beginning to look that I might get the chop anyway.

Would welcome any opinions.
Thanks

Not all companies enquire about previous sickness records but be prepared if they do. Is this a recurrent sickness in your case? IS your case recognised under the DDA.? If you know what triggered it and believe that it is under control most employers would understand.

in your situation I would job hunt within the company - its easier to get a job whilst still in a job and at least your present employer knows your medical history. When you are well enough, then look for employment elsewhere.

Sounds like you are being medically redeployed within your preset company..what help are they offering in securing you a role?

Thanks for your reply. It's heartening to know that it *might* not be an issue. The depression is sort of a chronic condition but not something that's affected my work before, and it's being well managed at the moment, so I'm pretty confident I'll be OK in the future.

My employer is circulating my details on an availability list to try to get me another role but there doesn't seem to be much out there... at least I have another two months, maybe things will pick up over the next few weeks.

    Regards
