Should I/Can I Fix My Mortgage For Life?

That the questions really. First of is this something I can do? If so do people think I should?
Interest rates are low at the moment and will only be going one way in years to come to pay back our huge debt. Surely now is a good time to batten down the hatches and prepare for the worst.
What are peoples thoughts?
Thanks
