toilet cleaner

Can anyone recommend a good eco toilet cleaner? I used to use Sainsbury's eco range one but it's not stocked in my local store anymore. I use Bio D for kitchen cleaner and washing up liquid. Is their toilet cleaner any good?

I use the Co-op own brand one. It seems to do the job as well as Ecover & other eco brands I've used.

I've only used the BioD toilet cleaner once and I don't know if I got a bad batch but it was really lumpy and wouldn't mix together even if shaken - so when I poured it down the toilet it looked like someone had been sick as it was yellow with liquid and lumps, it was so vile looking I only used it a few times and poured the lot down, it was all clinging to the toilet cleaner brush so in the end I binned that too, not very eco friendly!! But it might have just been a bad batch as I say.

I now use Ecover again which I was using before anyway as I like it, seems effective (I clean the toilet weekly though so haven't tested it on a really scummy toilet) and smells ok.

I've used soda crystals for a long time to clean the loo. They work really well and have a good environmental impact. You don't need to use a lot, a level tablespoon is ok.
  • I've not used an eco one before, but I used to work for Co-op and there eco range was quite popular. They also have 20% off there eco range every few months so maybe keep an eye out because it makes it very cheap!
  • Hi there, get yourself some tea tree oil, mix it with some water in a spray bottle. Spray it the loo, give it quick scrub....get rid of any 'nasty' marks, it's antibacterial and it smells nice. I bought a 15ml bottle of tea tree (about £3) and it lasts ages so works out really cheap aswell.

we use Bio D or eco Leaf & they are both good
We don't use Ecover due to the air miles involved & the fact they still test on animals

I have used several different biodegradable toilet cleaners including Bio-D and they are all effective. Bio-D stinks a bit tho, kind of vinegary whereas some of the others are more lemony.

  • Soda crystals and a good dash of lemon juice give it a good scrub with the loo brush leave for as long as you want = spotless loo and smells lemony.
Might mix a drop or 2 of t tree with the soda seems a good idea!

I've tried caustic soda ..it does not work ..and doesn't touch the lime scale ..

The only stuff I could get to work is masonry cleaner ..which is mild hydrochloric acid. 15 percent is a good one..look around because there is a lot of weak rubbish out there .£5 - £8 a gallon... acid .so careful careful careful.!!!!

ECO.....well yes .because hydrochloric is basically what's in your stomach ..not as concentrated though .

    All the best.markj
