WFTC - HMRC won't sort their mistake out!

Hi
Can anyone help?
My WFTC was stopped by mistake in Sept 2007 but I didn't realise until June 08. I was advised twice that it was being re-instated but it wasn't. The next time I rang they said time had run out and I needed to Appeal so I did that in Oct 08, just been told I will have to wait up to 6 months for an appeal to be heard. How can it take so long for someone to do what the last adviser did and read through the notes and say they made a mistake and sort it out? I have sent a letter of complaint in but never had a response, thought it has been received. I pay £500 a month in tax which they are pretty sharp to take from me so why am I waiting so long for the money they owe me. Any advice much appreciated.
Thanx

If you pay £500 tax a month surly you are over the threashold for claiming working tax credits?
Also you would of noticed when you got your award letter in April 2008 and checked that everything was ok. So if you didnt tell tax credits of the mistake in the award then I dont think you have a chance of appealing if you only noticed it 2 months later0 -
If someone doesn't notice they are missing a benefit payment for 9 months then perhaps they don't need it. I would certainly notice if my pension wasn't paid.0

We are entitled to the basic amount of tax credit that isn't means tested, the tax that replaced the married persons tax allowance. I didn't notice that the payments weren't being paid as they go directly in to my savings account and to be honest as I pay all of the childcare, house and bills for the car I never know whats in my account. Which was hard to keep on top of anyway as my Dad was in intensive care for quite a bit of 2008 and I moved house, I work full time and have 2 children to look after so not my top priority. I did just ask for advice not to be judged.0

The basic element is means tested.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked
50p saver #40 £20 banked
Virtual sealed pot #178 £80.250 -
So what was stopped? As your first post says it was working tax credit0

Does the OP mean Child tax credit ?
Try contacting your MP as they are usually very keen on sorting out Tax credit problems.0 -
It was the basic element that we are entitled to. I'd just like to say as some people seem to think I am so rich I don't need this money that I took my finals at university at 7 months pregnant, gave birth to my eldest daughter and have worked full time since she was 6 weeks old and I was 23 (she is 11 1/2 and such a credit to me) so that I was providing for my family. As soon as I could I bought us a home , I pay my pension and plan for my old age and my childrens future. I earn good money (but so much has gone out on mortgage and childcare) -but I have worked hard for it and made sacrifices. So if people do want to judge then please do it with all of the facts. My tax credit money is being aved up for my daughters university fees, I thought that was the responsible thing to do.0

yes what you are doing is all well and good. but what people are trying to do is help you work out why payments were stopped, and what recourse you have
the fact you pay £500 a month in tax, means you are above the levels to be entitled to CTC, so your payments might have been stopped, because you arent entitled. if thats the case, then what is the point in trying to appeal, as you wont have a leg to stand on
some more info might help, as in what your income was when the payments stopped, how many kids you have, and their ages, and how much you pay towards childcare

the fact in ceased in september 2007 seems to suggest that possibly the annual declaration was not completed in time. OP what is your gross household income?MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/2000
