How long did you stay in your first house for?

I bought my house a year and a half ago (June 2008) and am thinking of trying to sell to move in with my OH or get a bigger house with him. It's a tiny 2 bed terrace, cottage-y feel. I just wondered how long you stayed in your first time buy before you sold up?

I would'nt like to say realy I stayed 26 years in the first house we bought, six in the second and we've now been here four years and love it so much we can't see us moving ever.
It's what feels right for you and your finances.0 -
5 years (although did not sell the house, just moved out).
Would still be there now (making it 9 years) had I not got married.
Would have been only 4 years had we not had such a long fiasco getting another house...
Don't know what help that will be to you though - completely depends on your circumstances whether it makes sense to sell now.0 -
Well the first property I had a hand in buying (Id already inherited one but that doesnt count cos I didnt live in it) was a 1 bed flat in Surrey with my husband and we had it a year. We then moved back to Wales 8 years ago and bought a 4 bed semi which is our current house. We are due to move to another 4 bed semi in a different area in the next couple of weeks.
So 1 year if you count the flat, or 8 years if you count the house!
If you feel that a move is warranted due to speace, location, finances then why worry about what other people have done, if you want to move and can afford to then go for it!0 -
bought current house 16 years ago with BF at the time, it didnt work out so i bought him out 4 years in, met current chap, now hubby and we live there together with our son, currently in process of selling to move nearer the nicer schools and where hubby works (i work from home mainly).
TBH if we didn't have son, would probuably stay put
When we move, i hope thats the last move, as i like to be settled2010 challenges

Bought first flat with ex-husband in 1978 (with a bank loan of £1,100!!!) and sold in 1982 for £10,200 (got a grant to do it up as no proper kitchen and just an inside toilet). Moved frequently from then till 1995, got divorced and been here ever since. Never want, hope never need, to move again.0

I'm about to move out of the first place I bought (2 bed flat) - been there about 4 and a half years.
I'd hope to stay in the next place for at least 5 years - don't want too many moving costs (and stamp duty eek). But I guess it all depends on what life brings...0 -
10 yrs in the first place.. 14 in the second and have been in this one nearly 11 not sure if we will move again maybe..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j
