  • I have sent you a pm
  • I would find out whether the school are actually intending on doing the papers.

There was great variation this year - some schools did lots of preparation with the kids, others did little or none at all. Unfortunately in our case it was the latter category.

Due to the lack of support from the school we went down the tutor route which is something we never thought we would do but as kids in other schools were being taught and coached what are you to do?

Anyway you will get the papers in Easons. There are a few other suppliers around. We went through several packs from different publishers and I must warn you that they do have inaccuracies in them.

    Good luck.

I read over the Belfast telegraph ones and seems she hasnt covered all the work yet to enable her to do the full test....... def testing my memory on the maths - prime numbers are something I havent heard off since school days!

I printed off 6 papers from Belfast telegraph website - under the education tab if anyone else reading this.... foc too :-)

    hi

my dd is in p7 so we have just been through the lovely mess that is the new transfer system

dd's school started papers after easter, she also had a maths tutor, who worked hard on her confidence which helped a great deal. we did very little extra tests at home but used the bele tele papers as a supplement to the school ones, we did find a book called revise and shine ks2 maths very helpful, its colourful, has great explanations of all basic maths concepts and is broken down into small accessible sections, so it helped me help her with her homework!

we had 3 schools that dd was interested in 2 were doing aqe, the third was doing gl. aqe is v similar to the old 11+ minus the science, so technically revision papers are easy to get hold of, however we found that dd's school were cut n' pasting different sets of papers together and as a result some were longer papers than others, thus having an impact on the time it took to do the paper, the format of it and test results.

we got GL papers off ebay,

Bobs when my kids were going through 11+ I did not send them to tutoring I done it myself. I give them a paper to do, then marked it and sat down with them and went over their mistakes. Mind you at times it was tough at getting them to sit down especially during Summer months. However, it must have worked cause we got 2 'A's + 1 B1 which needless to say got them into school of their choice. The eldest I had no bother with but what worked for me with my 2nd + 3rd was I said if they got over a certain mark in school I would reward them i.e £5.00 for each time they scored over their target. As the old saying goes "Money talks". However, they didn't forget cause same thing happened with their GCSA + A levels so be warned.

Hi Choco - I wouldn't go down the line of tutoring either - I hope I know enough myself to give her a helping hand. I think I would agree with the money talks - I know it is bribery but if gives her an incentive I am all for it.
Saw you (I think) at the caravan show - short dark wavy hair?? - you were busy at the time with ? your daughter helping!! Meant to get back round to you but didnt quite make it - the kids had a ball - free candy floss and haribos - made their day. Couldnt believe the amount of stuff at it ..... some good ideas and fab caravans if I had a spare £15k....

Yes that was me but not my daughter I only have sons. You can always spot our fountains as we always keep them covered. Was it not you I spoke to near end of show with 2 girls in tow?
I know the money worked for us. On my 2nd sons last ever test in school I told him if he got over 70 out of 75 correct I would give him £20 never in my wildest dreams expecting it and guess what I had to pay out £20.00! so be careful you dont offer too much.
