Cake help!

Hi!

Really don't know what to do about a wedding cake, whether to buy one from a supermarket and try and decorate myself or if a cake maker might make one within my budget!

What are you all doing and how much is it costing?!

Lots of people have used supermarket cakes as their wedding cakes as they are so reasonable. A friend of mine, got our local cake maker to bake three single undecorated tiers which cost under £80 and she decorated them herself.

You could buy a small tier from the supermarket and have a practice run at decorating it, to see if you like it.

I am having a local cake maker doing ours, its 30 chocolate cups filled with malteser sponge with a carrot cake covered in chocolate spikes at the top (really hard to explain!! But looks amazing) which will feed about 10 (but keeping it for us) that is cost £189.50!
:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:

I'm buying 3 tiers from M&S & putting our on cake topper and some ribbon/diamante around each tier. I think under £100
  • Yeh I thought about M&S - are you then buying pillars etc to stack the tiers or can they just sit on top of each other?

Reckon I could take this home and "practice decorating"? ;)

My fiance may not believe me after we have already paid for our professional one

We got a 3 tier Marks and Spencer cake, 1 fruit and 2 sponge and decorated it ourself with things from ebay. We used pillars to hold it up...I think 3 in the 2 bottom tiers. It came to under £100 for everything (not sure how much the cake topper was as my dad bought us it. The roses are white chocolate and were very nice apparently. I didnt get any of the cake but everyone says it was lovely. Heres a PicValerieandPaul-4231.jpg
