I use Pesil non-bio - about 80 - 100 ml (plus a limescale reducer tablet) for a wash of about 8 Motherease nappies plus 1 small bathtowel. I never use conditioner on the kid's clothes. I also tumble dry the nappies for about 10 minutes per batch, otherwise the nappies go hard and scratchy (my machine has a very fast spin speed). I try to line dry as much as possible - not only keeps them whiter, but also keeps them smelling fresh. Over the winter I either dry on radiators or on top of hot water tank (never bother tumble drying completely dry - what a waste of money).
Don't put fabric conditioner on nappies or towels - it makes them less absorbent -fabric conditioner leaves a waxy coating on the fibres. My husband is allergic to it anyway - even the sensitive skin ones.
Hope this helps,
