SA Tax deduction question

Acquaintance works as a taxi driver - was on payroll for this period. Later was self employed, but trying to tie the pieces together.

Basically he had an accident in a company vehicle. In order to keep his job as it was his negligence (plus it was in his contract) he agreed to and did pay the vehicle repair cost, and has the garage bill. So for the sake of argument :
Gross that month £800
Less:PAYE & NIC (EE) £250
Net Pay for month £550
Less Vehicle Repair £250
Cheque enclosed £300

Can he claim the vehicle repair of £250 as a deductible anywhere ?
