Self assessment Total tax how to calculate ?

I am trying to use the online self assessment form,
does it calculate the amount of tax that I need to pay ?
or
Do I have to calculate the amount of tax using other software ?

I hope the online form calculates the whole thing

Yes the calculation is done for you online.

The figure that you get after submitting the return for 2008-09 will be the total tax payable for that year. It does not immediately take other payments/tax debts into account, it takes a little while for your info to be integrated into the system. Then they will prepare a proper statement.

............but, it does not calculate what is owing. As it does not deduct payments (on account) you may have made. So you will need to Login again at least 24hrs later after it has consulted with the accounting part of SA ......... which usually happens overnight.
