It might not be just what you're eating but how you're eating it IYKWIM. Do you drink (anything) before or with meals? You'll fit more food in if you drink after you've eaten (skip the soup, it makes you feel fuller than if you eat the same amount of food with the same volume of water). If you usually eat the low fat variety go up one level. Reduce the time between meals so that you can fit more 'proper' meals in a day rather than snacking on a piece of fruit - I don't mean large, I mean balanced, with protein, carbs and fat as well as your fruit and veg. And finally, look at the amount of exercise you do, muscle weighs more than fat. I'm not saying stop exercising but maybe look to see if what you do is more/less than optimum.

I suspect that with her stressful job the OP is burning off quite a lot of nervous energy. Maybe four smaller meals a day rather than three and nuts at hand for snacks.
If I had to put on weight (and Lord knows I most definitely do not) I'd put myself on the ice-cream, Greek yoghurt, peanut-butter and sour-cream diet. With chocolate and halva on the side to stave off starvation0 -
Can I just mention that when you're on the pill, the bleed you have is a withdrawal bleed, not an actual period. You don't ovulate whilst on the pill. So presumably the OP doesn't know if she has regular periods, or if she ovulates or not.

Just to add, I'm another naturally thin one who had no problems conceiving (age 24). I'm 5ft 7 and weighed 7st 12lb (BMI 17.2) when I fell pregnant in the first month of trying
I gained two stone when pregnant (only got as far as 31wks though, but not because of anything weight related!), but through a mixture of breastfeeding and stress, I've lost it all in eight months and I'm back down to a size six... Not happy one bit!
Going back to read over the weight gain suggestions again now..

I'm 5'7 and at the moment weigh 7st 10. In the summer I weighed 7st 4. I'm not really worried about being thin, as it obviously runs in the family, but I'd like to be a little bigger. At the moment I'm very happy and content and my job is no longer stressful and I seem to be putting on weight every week which makes a nice change! My weight just falls off if I'm ill for a few days and don't eat as much as normal.
I've been eating lots of bread and drinking full fat milkshakes. Try giving yourself bigger portions. If it's already on your plate you're probably more likely to eat it. I eat until I'm very full at every meal.
You could also try eating more in the evening as it gives your body less time to burn off the food before you go to sleep.0 -
In from about 18 to my early twenties I was 8 stone or less (5ft7"), i ate perfectly normally but I had alot of stress. Once I was really happy with my life and learnt to relax, I easily brought my weight up to a healthy range.
you mentioned 'long term relationship and have quite a stressfull job', so I take it, its both stressful at home and work? Maybe you need to look at ways to unwind, a bit of you time too.0 -
I agree, I was under weight - had completely neglected my diet and was living an unhealthy lifestyle but have got onto a good programme that just tipped me into being more proactive. You've got to want to make the change - cheesy though it sounds it worked for me - so keep going!Losing Debt - Getting Fit :T0

peanut or other nut butters or tahini are good sources of high energy and healthy saturated fats. you can get healthier versions (i.e. no added sugar) from the health food store. have on toast or maybe have a pot on your desk and have a teaspoon now and again.
be generous with butter. cheese is great. ice cream.

I weighed about 8st between the age of 16 and 25, and nothing I did or ate made a jot of difference to my weight. Then I had my first child, and since then I've been hovering between 8.5 and 9st - so you might fing that motherhood is enough to put some more meat on your bones. Pregnancy and breastfeeding will certainly increase your appetite and you might find that your appetite remains higher after you stop breastfeeding. That was certainly the case for me.0

Sorry, haven't read any of the replies and don't have time just now but had to post - I am also 5 ft 5 and only 7 stone - I have 3 children, all conceived within 6 weeks of 'trying' so it doesn't necessarily follow that you will have any fertlity problems and I think the doctor was silly to suggest this in such a blase manner.
Do you have \regular periods? If they were irregular I guess that might indicate a problem, but otherwise this is obviously your natural healthy weight and please don't worry0
