I'm too thin

I've just come back from the doctors and when i was there he weighed me. I asked him about me weight and he said i am underweight which i knew and will probably have problems conceiving in the future. I am quite shocked at this. I knew people with eating disorders had problems with their fertility but i honestly didnt think i would be in the same situation. At the moment i weigh 7 and a half stone and am 5'5. I would love to put on more weight but i never really think about it as i am in a long term relationship and have quite a stressfull job. I suppose it's just back of my list.
I once put on half a stone on holiday through non stop eating and drinking but felt horrible when i got back-probably because everything i ate was unhealthy-however people did comment on how good i looked. My doctor said i need to start snacking more and have cheese on my food. When i think about it i do eat alot of fruit instead of other more fattening snacks but this is just because i like fruit, not because i dont want to put on weight. Infact, i eat alot of healthy food becuase i like it.
So, i'm now determined to put on weight. I dont want anything to stand in my way of eventually having children, especially as i love my partner and can't wait to have a family. Does anyone have any tips on how to put on weight? I know you can get milkshakes so i might get some of them, and will be switching from sweetners in my tea to sugar. I just i hope i don't get cellulite eating all of this unhealthy food!

Are you scared of getting cellulite? Or putting weight on and seeing your body fill out?0

My son has the same problem. Hes really tall and skniny!
He has put on weight by making his own smoothies with fruit and ice cream and yoghurt. He snacks on bags of fruit and /choc chip mix from tescos.Hed have an egg as asnack quite often too. This has all helped him fill out.
Its really quite hard shopping and looking for the "full fat" version of things!
You will get there as it dosnt sound like you have an eating disorder, nor are you ridiculously thin.
good luck,

I already have cellulite since i don't exercise- i just don't want anymore! I think i would look alot nicer having a bit more 'meat on my bones' so dont mind getting fatter.
I think smoothies are a good idea Artytarty, i like nuts too so might start eating more of them.0 -
I know when through having stomach problems the doctors needed toget my weight back up to 8stone and I am only 5ft 1 and a bit so your weight does seem quite low....
One way we did it and for some reason it was the only thing i could tolerate was Mcdonalds milkshakes, the strawberry ones and it did help....having little pots of jelly also helped but not sure if they are sugar free and healthy now...I also had fromage frais as well between meals to boost things...
Things like extra cereal and toast also helps between meals to get the weight back on...0 -
There are a few ways of adding extra calories to your diet in a healthy way - such as snacking on muesli bars or flapjacks. Porridge with a splash of cream is nutritious and tasty. Nuts, seeds and dried fruit all have a lot of calories but have extra goodness in them too! One of my favourite drinks is a smoothie made out of milk, yoghurt, blueberries, oats and a bit of maple syrup - that goes down well!0

laura , you need to decide what you want from life and take it from there. remember when you are pregnant (good luck !) you will be eating peanut butter encrusted donner meat pizzas etc. think about the healthy eating when u r a mum !
and enjoy the practising ..................we all have bad days , some more than others ..................0 -
I am about the same height and weight, and have had (too) regular periods, but they didn't start til I was about fifteen. I have always been skinny and I don't put on weight regardless of how badly/well I eat, so I don't worry about it.
I got pregnant (by accident) and carried my first child to term, and then some, and she was a normal size. Am pregnant again with number two, conceived again straight away. Unless you aren't having periods, I'm not sure you need to worry at this stage.
My BMI is about 17.5 ish??Debt free as of July 2010 :j

My sister had a BMI of 18 when she got pregnant, possibly slightly less one time. She is actually taller but struggled to keep her weight about 8 stone.
The big question is are your periods regular and do you ovulate? If so, stop worrying about weight.
What is important however is to ensure that you get the full range of nutrients and vitamins if you want to get pregnant. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Hi
just thought i'd add to this, i've been told by hospital to put on weight for an operation i weight 8st and they want me to be 8st 10lbs i'm 5ft 2inchs this though is because they need to take fat from my stomach and put it elsewhere i've been trying for 3 months to put on weight and its so hard, i'm eating everything in sight and so far only managed to put on 2lbs so far
strange as i lost 2 stone 2 years ago and that was hard and i was and have been til nov very good about what i eat - never thought putting on weight would be hard used to be able to look at food and put weight on0 -
