Why is it that when i seem to overcome one money problem another arises?
I took out a loan for £3500 in 2007 for two years, kept up with the payments fine untill the last 2 month, i lost my job and couldn't pay, explained this to them and was told effectively - tough you have to pay.
In November i made a payment for for the outstanding balance, or atleast i thought i had - it's a service where you leave a voicemail with the card details and amount you want to pay and job done.
It wasn't actually me who paid this off so can't really check what happened, but i've been sent a letter saying i still owe this outstanding amount! -
I can't pay it not all in one go, till maybe next month. what do i do?

You need to check they payment was made from the card you think it was paid from. Then providing it it I would write to them with details of this payment (date amount, approx time, where paid from) and ask them to update their records.
If the card the payment came from was not in your name it may have caused a little confusion and could be sitting is a suspense account.
If no payment was actually taken then I would recommend you write with a payment for what you can afford this month, with an explanation that you will be in a position to repay the remainder next month (if you send a cheque then keep a copy of the cheque and the letter).A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
I remember the date i phone to pay them, but need to check with OH if payment was made, - problem as we've not been receiving statements recently so have asked for ours to be sent again.

If your OH paid using his card then go to his bank, and get a printout of last transactions. Or he could check online to see if payment was taken.
Then send a report to the loan company to prove you did pay.DebtFree FEB 2010!Slight blip in 2013 - Debtfree Aug 2014 :j

Aw hun don`t feel bad.
Contact them and explain that you had trouble paying and that a family member offered to help. They used the automated system and thought the payment had been successful.

Since it's obviously causing you some stress the first thing I'd do is get the OH to check if the payment was taken, then call the loan company and explain what's happened, as long as you don't start by attacking them the people on the other end of the phone are generally pretty reasonable.
Once you've sorted something out with them get it all down and send a letter following up, thanking them for their help and confirming the resolution. It's always best to have these things in writing.
Good luck with it, don't stress too much0 -
No OH can't help now as he's self employed and hasn't been able to earn a single penny for over month because of christmas and the snow! He's relying on me at the moment - hence why i can't afford to pay the full amount back, i could do a token gesture of at a push £50, but thats all this month.
I will phone them tomorrow and try and get this sorted, I need to budget for next month before rushing into anything.Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500
