Elderly lady being chased for sons debt.

After advice please,an elderly friend of ours is being chased by a mobile phone company. Her son emigrated abroad, and although he paid outstanding bill,I think he failed to cancel line rental etc. She is now being threatened with debt collection agencies/bailiffs for his bill as he lived at her address. Is there a template letter she can send to stop the harassment? Many thanks, SRM xx

Dont know about a Template SRM, but she can just send them a letter stating that he no longer lives at her address.
If he is over 18 then she is not at liberty to let them know WHERE he is.....that is the Creditors job to find out!
Return any mail 'no known at this address'. If its just line rental then it will probably die in the water......unlikely that they will do an International Search for such small amounts.
    :D:D stay wonky :D:D

If he is out of the country then it will be difficult to impossible to recover the debt.

As above, you do not need to supply any details other than to say he does to live at this address anymore.

She is not liable for any payments to the DCA, this is upto the son to do. If you get in touch with national debtline they might be able to knock up a suitable template to state the debtor does not live here anymore and as an elderldy and potentially vulnerable person then no further contact should be made to this address or person, in writing, telephone or personal house visits. Etc

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies

The first thing to explain to her is that she is not legally liable for his debt and no-one can make her pay it or enter her house to remove things to pay for it.

Ideally she should ask her errant son to write to them and tell them that he has left the country.

In the short-term, return the letter and advised him that he has moved away.
