in Cutting tax
sorry about the title, not sure how else to word it!
I do a tax return as I do a little self employed mystery shopping. I'm trying to finish my return off now and have got myself all confused
I did some work in April 2009, in the 2008-2009 tax year. By the time the companies paid me it was the 2009-2010 tax year.
Do I include this on the tax return for 2008-2009 or 2009-2010?
It's all of about £30, so not the end of the world if I don't get it right (I;'ll definately include it on one of the returns), but I'd like to do it properly if I can
thanks

HMRC spell out that you include work done between e.g. April 6th 2008 and April 5th 2009, even if you did not receive the money until after April 5th 2009. The idea is that you will have received the money by the time that you come to file the return.
I agree that £30 is not much though. You can now file online for previous years (it says on HMRC's website) and can amend anything that has been filed online, so it is never too late to straighten things out.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

thanks for that
previous returns are all ok as I just avoided doing work for a couple of weeks before the year end so it wouldn't cause a problem!0
