I was wondering if anyone here possibly had any sofas they need rid of??? Strange line to start with i know, but if you read on you will hopefully understand!!
my church are currently organising a number of events around the 2010 world cup which involves watching around 15-20 of the matches this june/july. we are in need of some sponsorship or freebies (football or sport related). we also are trying to acquire some sofas to make watching the games more comfortable!!
if anyone has any info on places where we may prevail on the sponsorship/freebies front i will be able to get the proper cover letters arranged and sent out to the people in the know in the relevant places or if anyone happens to be buying a new sofa and didnt know what they were going to do with their old sofas we would be appreciative of them no matter what their current state (as long as they are able to be sat on).
or if anyone has any ideas please let me know!!
also if anyone actually wants to go to any of the events we plan to hold there will be barbeques (free food provided, brugers hotdogs etc), special guests from the world of ifa football, and viewing of the matches in the safe family enviornment of beersbridge road elim church. (dont worry people wont be preaching at you)
i thought with this being the local section of the moneysavers fourm that it would have place here, since it is moneysaving, local and is a worthwhile community initiative designed to bring the community together through something a lot of people will enjoy.
it is open to everyone!
but first if anyone could help with any of what i have been asking for then that would be brilliant!! if not, no problems, after all you dont get if you dont ask!!

Hi
I wish you well with this.
For the sofas, it would be worth asking on Freecycle. You should be able to pick up sofas there. Then when the world cup is over you could advertise them on Freecycle again and that gets rid of them for you.
How about approaching the likes of C&C for lemonade etc. With regard to the sport thing maybe have a chat with the local sports firms such as Vi Sport, SS Moore etc.0 -
As it's doing good... any chance you could get into contact with other Churches to borrow some seats? Even further, you could maybe ask the Salvation Army or other such charity who get mant donated could you borrow some for a short time period? It's a good cause and many charities will appreciate this and don't sell many items of furniture that fast! Might be worth a try anyway and all the best, hope it all works out"Well, we are a Christian country, it is an important part of our make-up and I don't see any reason to change." David Cameron0

thanks guys, i will try the the things you have mentioned. i think someone has sent a proper letter to c&c, and we were considering the borrowing of sofas. we have plenty of seats, but we are trying to create a more relaxed and comfortable atmosphere rather than our normal chairs (but obviously we are hoping to need to put extra chairs out)
i have heard good things about this freecycle thing, im going to have a good check on there to see if anyone is trying to get rid of stuff!
thanks again guys!!0 -

It's a great community idea, I actually gave my sofa's to St Vincent de Paul when I moved out of my house last March. Can you ask local youth groups and centres regarding borrowing sofa's. These may be more accommodating as the youth will probably help out and or be involved, plus they're more than likely the places to find sofa's instead of chairs.
I have to say over the summer I'm not watching the world cup after the Henry incident, and read today in the papers he was let off too, it's my own lil stand off lol0 -
hi drew.
im sorry im not of much help to you, but previousl being a member of the Elim a number of years ago, I am interested in what you are doing!
just wondering also - where on earth are you going to keep the sofas so that they dont hinder the chucrch meetings/youth clubs etc!? hehe....should be a bit of a job!Carla-Farla!!

we will have them in storage around the place, (nice and vague i know lol) but the church owns a couple of houses beside it that are small but were going to be demolished so we bought them for storage purposes, also our youth pastor has cleared out his garage and will be putting one or two in there! they shouldnt hinder us too much!
thanks you all for your support so far, there has been a lot of interest in this event already from on here, from my rugby club and from what ive been hearing from the other guys whom i am organising it with, and its still january!!
lets just hope it doesnt run out of steam before june and just keeps building!!
we seem to be on our way with things, got one sofa secured already, and other things are in the pipelines!!0 -
