Vac attachment stuck on vac hose.

Does anyone know any tips on how to release a plastic vac attachment which is stuck on the vac's metal pipe, please?
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

  • Have you tried tapping where it's stuck quite hard on the edge of a work surface or similar?

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have tried that and it is still stuck.

  • Have you tried heating it gently? Or twisting it wearing rubber gloves and holding each bit separately (IYSWIM)?

Have you tried making it cold then hot? Plastic usually contracts when cold and expands when warm. So maybe in the freezer then on a radiator, as with any luck it'll free up the joints. Plastic should heat quicker than the metal does freeing it up.

When you twist it off try using rubber gloves to give you more grip on it.

I had that problem when I didn't use the right connector and I freed it with wd40 and gave it a shoogle and the 2 bits came apart.

Exactly what I was going to say, except I didn't know that technical term "shoogle" but I know what it means :rotfl:

  • Thanks everyone. I'll try all that tomorrow and let you know how it goes.

  • If you use WD40, don't switch the cleaner on for at least an hour afterwards, just in case the fumes ignite!

(an ex tried spraying a cleaner bag with Lynx because it smelled musty, then switched it on. Let's just say my new cleaner cost him a fair bit that afternoon)

I would try rubbing the edge with cooking oil.
