I wanna remove the sticky label from glass jars

Options
I love the big Yankee candles that come in jars and buy them (only) when they're on offer. However, I love to re-use the jars but can't seem to get the sticky stuff below the label off completely. I've tried elbow grease and then moved up to nail varnish remover but still no joy. Some tips would be great please. Also some ideas on other uses for these - I'm using them for coins, little soaps, cotton wool pads, cotton buds, and seashells but running out of ideas and still have some empty jars

You can buy sticky remover solution - works brilliantly. It's about £3 a bottle but you only use a little, I've had a bottle for a couple of years and not used all yet. Sold on ebay and Amazon etc...
  • Did try soaking the jar in warm/hot water before removing the label? It will come off easier if you do this though it doesn't necessarily mean the sticky stuff will come off with it.

Tyanks for the idea of reusing them always finished them and out they went. well truthfully got bored of the smell and was too excited to move onto the next new one so my mum would have them.

How about turning them into ''hampers'' for christmas. You could fillthem with sweets or how about half fill will popcorn then sweets and attach a cinema voucher on the outside.

I am going to use up the three i have on the go and fill with tea bags coffee and sugar (my old canisters have rusted underneath so need new ones)

    WD40?

(In a ventilated area of course)

If they are paper labels try scoring them and rubbing baby oil on (Kim and Aggie use that for stickers)

  • There's a special pen, a bit like a marker pen, that you can buy which removes sticky stuff - I think it is made by niceday, but can't seem to find it online. I did just find this though which may do the trick...

Great ideas - thanks to you all. I've tried the hot soapy water and they've been through the hot cycle on the dishwasher several times but to no avail. Gonna try the sticky stuff remover from eBay and will post back. Keep the jar recycling ideas coming please :j

    Hi ,

If you get a tin of lighter fluid from the newsagents you should find that this will work . They are pretty cheap to buy ... Just put a bit on with a cloth and rub it and it should come straight off .

I used to work in a shop and we always used this to remove the " sticky gunge " left from labels .
