E: 08/03 Win A Trip To The Oscars

The page is not found because the comp is closed. The comp closed last week.
But, you know what, the comp is still getting entries, because you guys run the answer and email address etc. Which means the guys who bust their balls arranging the comp literally get nothing for their efforts, cos you guys are barefaced cheats. It's that simple. One can spend weeks working on securing a prize for their regular web visitors, yet you guys enter the comp without even visiting the website, get the details wrong (closing date is not March 31st, it was midday 8th March) and then hope to win it. What do the arrangers get for their efforts? A page impression? Nope, nothing.
Perhaps you underestimate the effort that goes into these things, and because it's online, it's a faceless situation with no harm done. Well, I'm telling you, you're wrong. By doing this with email entry comps, you screw the site in question over. And so they stop doing comps entirely, and everybody loses.
21 names were drawn out of a hat for this, and I really hope none of the entries came from here, cos that'd be a real shame for the rest of us.0 -
Thanks for letting us know that it is closed.I'll edit the end date & click expired.I've no wish to get in to an online debate on the merits of posting this competition on here.Suffice to say that if the promotor had got in touch in the same way that you had the email details & answer etc would have been removed.Other sites have requested such things and the request has been willingly complied with.0

But if you're a customer spending hard earned money on TV (rather than giftfs for your kids, apparently!), then would it not bother you if non-Sky customers are winning competitions ahead of you on Sky sites?
Would it not bother you if the websites you pay for with that subscription, can no longer supply any competiton prizes, simply because a comp is getting 1k entries, but no page impressions, therefore earning the site no ad revenue?
Would that not bother you more?
There's nothing wrong with comps being promoted on sites, i am sure the people who arrange the comps would agree. But by entering the comp in this manner, you're kinda screwing things up. All you need to do is visit the page - there are plenty of comp sites out there that give comp details and a link. But this site, this forum, you get people to enter without offering ANYTHING back to the people who create the comps. Which is selfish, and in the long term, unsustainable. The sooner you realise that, the better.0 -
I didn't enter this comp and I know it is going off the point, accept the frustration of e-mail entries without visiting the site but I am puzzled as to how only 21 entries were pulled out of the hat when there were 1k entrants??
Surely any e-mail entries made after the closing date would be immediately discounted from the web page visit analysis anyway as it would have been done at the close of the competition??
And wouldn't the solution be to make entry via the website rather than e-mail (I also not that the comp post did include a weblink that would have encouraged traffic)
I am no expert but if it was me I would have thought traffic of 1k plus would be preferable to 21 entries.0 -

Many sites offering competitions ask for certain criteria to happen if we want to post it here, such as not posting the answer, or asking for people to actually visit the site before entering.
However, Sky have never requested this, and im not sure what your link is to Sky, however surely an incrediably large multi national company like Sky is not dependant on the few MSE competitioners to visit the site to provide a prize. In fact, as a Sky customer myself (who did not enter this particular competition) i regularly enter the Sky competitions that are available purely to Sky customers. I also enter a large number from other Sky sites, such as Sky Arts, Sports etc and have been doing so for a number of years now, without anyone from Sky coming onto this site either complaining or requesting things to be changed.
I think it would clarify things if you would say exactly what/who you are in regards to Sky, and also whether you have the authority from Sky to request that all Sky competitions must be entered via the site (and you will also have to visit quite a number of other competition sites, as im sure MSE wasnt the only site to post this competition) and as with a lot of other competitions that are posted on this site, those instructions will be followed.0 -

I didn't enter this myself but I've just looked at the Google cached page here and it was the Sky site that said the end date was 31st March at 9am.
I do agree on people entering without visiting the site, I always make sure I visit sites when they're posted to generate the traffic and also to have a look around. The problem comes though when sites neglect to think about people that don't have access to clicking the link and getting the subject and body of the email filled in, and they don't state on the site what needs to go in them, I think that is why they get posted on here.0
