Amending / Obtaining new Mortgage Offer ?

Any advice welcome, thank you.
Before Christmas we received our Mortgage Offer finally from provider (took an amazing 6 weeks and we already have mortgage with them!).
We did this through an IFA and at the time thought we would be better off doing it ourselves as we did the majority of the chasing as it was taking so long.
The chain we were in has now fallen through and we will be purchasing another property and so we will need to get another Mortgage Offer for the new property and pay valuation fee (again!) - when I spoke to the Mortgage Company direct they said we would need to get the IFA to send in amendment forms etc etc.
Our current offer expires in May 2010 and I'm not sure if we would even have exchanged contracts by then as we are still waiting for the chain to complete - I would presume if the offer expires we could start afresh then but wondering if we could go direct, not through IFA, before then as there is an original offer still in existence ?
