Cardboard boxes for moving

Hi there,
We are due to move into our newly purchased home on 29th Jan and have started looking for somewhere to get cardboard boxes for moving. We have been renting a furnished house for 8 years so just have the usual clothes, books, cds, kitchen stuff etc. I have looked on ebay and some websites but they all seem to add a ridiculous surcharge to N.Ireland (£50 in one case!!). There is 1 NI company I found in Omagh but they were very expensive so I was wondering if anyone knew of any reasonable companies in Belfast who would sell boxes? I did ask in my local Tesco but they said no.
Cheers,
Sara

Hi Sara
Go to your local Iceland store, I have always got boxes from there. I'm due to move the week after you too and that's where I'm heading to ask. You'll find if you go to the smaller stores locally they're more helpful, Centra, Spar, Vivo, oh and lidl for the really big boxes
To buy them, I've seen them in the argos book but they're expensive for what your getting
HTH & good luck with the move!0 -
Moving previously I’ve found it a nightmare finding boxes as a lot of shops dismantle the boxes straight after use. Think everything environmentally restricted now. Have you hear of Belfast free cycle? I managed to collected 20 boxes from one person that had received them from a previous free cycler. (I also put them back on once I was finished with them) You can also place wanted ads.

If you are really stuck, you could try contacting SCA Packaging in Warrenpoint. They make cardboard boxes, so probably wouldn't be too dear. I remember buying from them years ago when they were still Reeds.0

Freecycle is now known as Freegle. It so happens that someone has advertised 25-30 cardboard boxes suitable for moving house today! Get yourself on there asap. BTW I'll copy the email and send it to you via pm.0

Yes, I gave a few cardboard boxes away on freegle. There's usually someone keen to clear a bit of space in the attic. The stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0

Thanks so much everyone! I have emailed the Freegle person so hopefully that will work out.
And I can pick up a few from the Centra on my way home from work
Good luck to you too, Cathy!0 -
Hi Sara and Kathy,
I am just outside Ballyclare.
I have plenty of 400mm x 400mm x 300mm (approx.) boxes which you are welcome to have for free if you can pick them up.0 -
Most stores will help, it's really on discretion but try Dunnes Stores, I know my local one in Connswater is happy to help!
Also, there's a packaging company on Knock dual carriageway/Prince Regent Road maybe worth a try?"Well, we are a Christian country, it is an important part of our make-up and I don't see any reason to change." David Cameron0 -

I think they mainly do documentation boxes, but they would be quite good for moving books and stuff. The website seems to be mostly about document storage, but I've quite a few of their boxes dotted around my house for some reason or another*insert witty comment here*0 -
If you're asking local shops, off licences and bookshops usually have boxes designed for heavier items..0
