Computer didn't have software as advertised.

I ordered a PC and windows 7 by mail order and on its website a large ad says:
Extra Software installed when ordering an operating system
then a picture of powerdvd 9, AVG and Nero.
Only AVG (a free antivirus) was installed.
When I asked about this they said,'they're incompatible with windows 7 and windows own player does the job'.
Now I accepted this even though the software costs, what, £80, £100 to buy?
But now a month later my PC has to go back for repair (a fault that was already there) and I've subsequently found out what he told me was untrue, they are compatible. Windows own burner I doubt very much would be as good. I don't know if he meant the old software they have are incompatible, but I don't think that's my problem. I'm thinking of attaching a note about the system but what should I put? If I say please install nero and powerdvd as advertised I would guess they wouldn't and repeat what they said before. Anything else I should add to the request (demand) to reinforce the point, I don't feel like getting into an argument with them on the phone. Do I have the right to demand they install this software as advertised?
It would be surprising if they hadn't had other comments about this as the vast majority of their systems must be windows 7 now.

do you have the original ad or do you have an invoice showing what you ordered?? If not, I am not sure what you can do.

Firstly, regarding compatibility - Nero 9 works fine with Windows 7, and has done since Windows 7 was released. I can't comment on PowerDVD as I don't use it.
It is fair to say that the software included with Windows 7 does play DVDs and burn discs, but it is nothing like as good as either PowerDVD or Nero for that purpose.
This is however irrelevant, as it was advertised as coming with them, they should have either installed them or a compatible with equivalent functionality.
Personally I'd be asking for it to be installed (and discs supplied) or a significant refund to allow you to purchase them yourself.Dogs have owners...my cat has slaves...0 -
Xobc is correct. You bought the goods based on that advert. I would therefore expect that software to be provided, as per the contract entered into. This is regardless of whether some of the functionality is already in the operating system, as many such products provide additional functionality and that Windows simply does not provide.
Elaborating on what has been said, looking at both the Nero and PowerDVD sites, they both show 'Compatible with Windows 7' logos, so what the retailer stated was incorrect.
Take xobc's advice on the next step. Given that the OEM copies usually cost peanuts, I would expect them to be able to rustle them up in preference to the prospect of the cost of retail copies for you.0 -
Make sure you keep any copies of the adverts that you ordered from in case they deny the original offer.0

But OP, you did accept the explanation given a month ago.
Maybe that could be construed as accepting the 'total package'.
I would certainly think it quite reasonable for the seller to believe they had answered your query (about where was this free software) to your satisfaction.0 -
And the website is?......0
