Camping at Yosemite

Hi Guys,
OH and I are Planning a fly frive to California in September. We're going to buy a tent / sleeping bags when we get there and camp at the Grand Canyon for a couple of nights. So we are thinking of making the most of the tent / sleeping bags and also camping when we get to Yosemite.
Has anyone camped (in a tent rather than a canvas cabin) at Yosemite? We'll be ok keeping the snakes and creepy bugs out of the tent but to be honest i'm scared of the bears! Are there rangers patrolling on site through the night?
Would be very grateful for any advice / info

Hi, I camped at Yosemite about 10 years ago in mid September and it was great, but can get pretty chilly at night. There were special lockers for you to put all your smelly stuff in, toiletries as well as food, and instructions about how to avoid any bear incidents. I didn't hear of any rangers patrolling but had no problems and would recommend it.Jan 2013 GC 0/250

Great, thank you. Do you remember which camp site you stayed at?0

The national parks have a great website with all the advice and info. http://www.yosemitepark.com/Accommodations.aspx You do need to book well in advance as places are limited and very popular. September weather will be fine but don't forget that many of the amazing waterfalls and lakes in Yosemite are casued by the snow melt from the Sierra Nevada mountains and they will be all dried up by September.0

Keep all food and ANYTHING scented in your car not your tent. That was the advice when I camped there 3 years ago.Trying to remain debt free!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, I just wondered if the OP had found out any more about this? I'm hoping to do something similar (summer 2011) and would welcome any advice.0

Actually, the advice is NOT to keep anything food or scented in your car as bears have been known to rip car doors off to get to food.
They provide a metal cabinet in which to put all your food and toileteries in.0 -
Well, I did see a large bear when I visited Yosemite.:)
I was elated at the time... but then I wasn't camping!0 -

Look at this website - it will give you a list of the camping options in Yosemite.
The sites on the valley floor get packed in the summer.
We stayed there a couple of years ago - but didn't camp in a tent of our own - we stayed in Camp Curry in a heated tent. All of our stuff had to put into the lockers provided - nothing in the car or the tent.
It was a great experience - deer in the carpark etc. Plenty of easy trails if you want them.
