Does anyone know how to get permanent marker out of carpet?

My darling dog decided I wasn't paying him enough attention and got hold of a balck permanent marker - 10 minutes later, one pen destroyed and one stairs carpet with dog grafitti on it:mad:

Does anyone know how I might be able to get this off??

    dry cleaning solvent? Dr Beckmanns Stain Devils? test on an out-of-the way bit first.

    i have used nail polish remover before and it worked a treat

    Vanish Mousse is very good. I have on many occasions taken pen out of my carpet with it!

    Make sure you wash it off very well or it could stain the carpet (permenantly) by removing the colour
    One day I might be more organised...........:confused:
